Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, south-of-the-border equivalent of Architecture & Design Scotland, finds fault with supermarket-led developments in town centres. Many are "typically big plain buildings in a large car park - which are unsuitable for town centres". |

November 2010 | Accrington: Tesco's "450 jobs" became 191.
During the planning process Tesco said their new store would create 450 jobs but just 191 posts were advertised. |

September 2010 | September 24: A Tesco proposed for the centre of a Surrey village (Ashtead) was allowed, but a larger option was rejected as excessive. In the inspector's view, a larger store would claw back more trade. He was also concerned that the scheme would lead to the loss of a substantial number of trees which were making a significant contribution to the village's character. |

July 2010 | Isle of Man: Plans to extend a Tesco store in Douglas have been shelved by the Manx Council of Ministers. The Council agreed with an independent planning inspector following a public inquiry and rejected the extension, chiefly on grounds of increased traffic. |
