What can you do to try and stop this?
You can ask your elected representatives: Local Councillors, MPs and MSP's to:-
* Urge EDC to challenge the Reporter's findings because they are NOT in the public interest
* Urge EDC NOT to sell / exchange council-owned land to the developers - this would stop them from going ahead with their house building plans regardless of whether planning permission exists. Remember: the Council owns the Allander and is therefore an important part-owner of the site.
* Ask EDC to explain why there was no effective public consultation on the developers'proposal between '04 - '07?
And why the Planning Dept published a document (KPDR) in Sept '08 that contradicted the Councillors' decision to refuse the application?
The problem is that this document appeared to support the developers' application and it undermined the Council's arguments (and the community action group, KWAG's) at the appeal inquiry because it included "replacement of the Allander" for the first time in any public local plan document. This, without ANY public consultation and in the knowledge that the community objected to the loss of the Allander (even for 18 months) which played a key part in the refusal of planning permission by the Councillors in Nov. 07.
what's more, KPDR no longer specifies keeping the Rugby Club in the
development site, thus clearing the way for almost doubling the number of houses to be
built.
* See details of this act of sabotage by publication of the KPDR »
If you are worried about the loss of the Allander / lack of public consultation / development on the floodplain / traffic implications or anything else to do with this development - NOW is the time to say so. Unless the community react and demonstrate their opposition the development will go ahead and this unique opportunity to develop the area in the interests of more than developer profits will be lost.
